Children engage in fun, physical activity and reflective practice sessions which teach them the social and emotional life skills they need to learn, grow, and develop, so they can cope with whatever life throws at them.
Teachers receive lesson plans, reflective task sheets and online CPD training. The Wellbeing Through Sport Programme can be delivered by teachers as part of the RSE, PHSE or PE Curriculum.

In this programme, children are introduced to the four Foundation ‘TMH Core Life Skills’. Each lesson, to support a child’s development of these social and emotional skills includes:

Senior Mental Health Lead Training & Whole School
Package

Our Senior Mental Health Lead Online Training for primary schools has met the Department for Education quality criteria. This means eligible state-funded primary schools in England will be able to apply for a Department for Education grant funded place to complete our training.

We equip Senior Mental Health Leads in primary schools to strategically design, implement, and sustain a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

To support Senior Mental Health Leads in their role and to deliver a universal approach to promotion and prevention, we also provide the Wellbeing Through Sport Whole School Programme which can be delivered in-school by teachers or by one of our Approved Providers (sports coaching organisation). This includes:

  • Foundation Programme (Years 1 & 2)
  • Intermediate Programme (Years 3 & 4)
  • Advanced Programme (Years 5 & 6)

Through whole school community participation, the aim is to drive positive mental health outcomes for all and improve engagement, attendance, attainment, and success for pupils in school.

Designed for senior leaders in primary schools with a passion for mental health, this course is suitable for those already in, or commencing, the role of Senior Mental Health Lead.

Disjointed and reactive responses to mental health needs leave children, and wider school communities, vulnerable to poor mental and physical health. Delayed responses lead to pervasive negative outcomes in later life. Therefore, proactive, collaborative, and strategic approaches to mental health and wellbeing are required. We must empower whole school communities to work together to ensure that mental and physical health are equally valued, and that promoting good health and preventing ill health is embedded in a school’s core values.

There are a number of components to this Senior Mental Health Lead Training.

1) Supportive Mental Health & Wellbeing Policy Framework

2) Online Learning This is divided into Part 1 and Part 2. Each part is comprised of a series of e-learning modules.

3) Self-directed Learning At the end of each module you will be directed to further reading and development activites to embed and enhance your knowledge.

4) Reflective Practice Throughout the training you will be encouraged to engage in reflective practice activities to support you to progress through the stages of learning and to develop a deeper understanding of your role.

5) Action Planning At points during the training you will be asked to build an action plan that you can take forward to design, implement and sustain your own individual and effective whole school approach to mental health.

6) Implementing the Wellbeing Through Sport Whole School Programme Designed for children in Years 1 - 6 (5-11 year olds), this is a unique programme supporting a whole school approach to positive mental health and wellbeing. It can be can be delivered by teachers as part of the RSE, PHSE or PE Curriculum. This includes:

  • CPD mental health awareness training for all staff, parents, and governors.
  • Lessons plans for each of the primary school key stages to enable staff to deliver a universal approach to promotion and prevention for all pupils.

We recommend that this course is completed over a 2 month period and all participants take up the opportunity to:

  • Participate in expert led online group supervision sessions to review progress, receive feedback, and support your professional development in your role as Senior Mental Health Lead.

  • Become a member of an online peer networking group to enable peer support, reflection and shared learning opportunities.
